The Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Nebraska Center for Materials & Nanoscience will host the 54th Midwest Solid State Conference on October 6-7, 2007 at the Nebraska City Union
The UNL Department of Chemistry is hosting the seventh annual Chemistry Day on Saturday, October 6, 2007. The purpose of this event is to introduce high school juniors, seniors, parents and science teachers to the opportunities and careers in the field of Chemistry. UNL students who are interested in becoming Chemistry majors are also welcome to participate.
The event is scheduled from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm in Hamilton Hall in the heart UNL’s City Campus. Events include guided tours of chemistry labs and special instrumentation centers, an informational session featuring a variety of interesting experimental demonstrations in addition to academic information, and a special session by Dr. Mark Griep entitled “A Periodic Table of Elements in the Movies”. Optional campus tours and teacher roundtables will also be available.
Registration for this event is free and includes lunch catered by Valentino’s and the opportunity to win scholarships and other Chemistry related prizes.

Don’t miss Wild Fruit & Nut Jam October 6!
Experience the sights, tastes and smells of Wild Fruit and Nut Jam! Visit the UNL Kimmel Education & Research Center in Nebraska City from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 6. A variety of Nebraska vendors will be at the event selling baked goods, jams, jellies, nuts, candy, vegetables, decorative woody florals, jewelry,
handmade wood furniture, high-quality turned wood items and much more!
Children can participate in hands-on craft activities, while adults can enjoy one of several hourly educational demonstrations scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wood turners and other skilled artisans will also be sharing their talents throughout the day.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public.
