Klezmer, the music of the Eastern European Jews, shimmers with all of the chutzpah, joy, and soulful emotion of the itinerant Yiddish troubadours who performed throughout Europe for 400 years. The Shirim Klezmer Orchestra honors klezmer's historic origins, celebrates American jazz-influenced klezmer as it developed through the 20th century, and manages to put its own clever klezmer twist on classical standards such as "Peter and the Wolf," and Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker." Billboard says "Shirim's genre-crossing conception is a delight and its playing a joy."
