| 6:00 pm-8:30 pm | Play - "This Unsafe Star: The Murder of Emmett Till" LIED CENTER for PERFORMING ARTSThis Unsafe Star: The Story of Emmett Till" is an original play enacted by the Lincoln High Theatre Department under the direction of instructor and playwright Chris Maly. "This Unsafe Star" retells the story of Mamie Till and her amazing courage in the wake of the tragic murder of her son, Emmett Till. Widely acclaimed as the beginning of the Civil Rights Movement, Emmett Till's death was a turning point for America and continues to raise important questions of race relations and justice. This performance will feature original music written by Lincoln High students Matthew Boring and Christiana Wismer and introductory remarks from Emmett Till's cousin, Rev. Wheeler Parker, who accompanied Emmett Till to Money, Mississippi. The evening's presentation will be a memorable experience of living history. |
