| 1:30 pm-4:00 pm | Preparing Intentional Students Using Technology NEBRASKA UNIONThis workshop is the final presentation in the “Preparing Intentional Learners Using Technology” Initiative in Teaching and Learning Excellence grant project series. Thus far, this series of presentations has drawn over 250 faculty and staff from every UNL college who are interested in effectively integrating technology into their teaching in order to prepare intentional learners. (In UNL's vision on undergraduate education, “Everyone a learner, everyone a teacher,” intentional learners are defined as those able to “adapt to new environments, are informed, integrate knowledge across a wide spectrum and are responsible for their own actions.” They are equipped to deal with “unscripted problems.”)
This final workshop will once again feature Melissa Anderson, Senior Pedagogical Advisor, Blackboard, Inc., as workshop facilitator. Dr. Anderson will pull together the themes of each of the workshops in the series, focusing on what has been learned about integrating technologies into classes in order to achieve desired learning outcomes. She will focus on those learning theories and teaching methodologies that have proven helpful in accomplishing the goal of preparing students to be intentional learners. Participants will hear about the teaching strategies and technology solutions that UNL faculty have integrated into their classes as a result of this series. In addition, they will have the opportunity to discuss the strategies they are using and interact with their colleagues about what is working for them. The workshop is free and open to all UNL faculty and staff. Although not required, pre-registration is preferred.

| 7:00 pm-8:00 pm | The Jeni Fleming Trio LIED CENTER for PERFORMING ARTSThe Trio is led by Jeni Fleming's powerful and honest voice, capable of effortlessly delivering complex classical and modern jazz dichotomies in one breath, breezy folk tunes with a modern twist and vibrant original pop, in another. Her lush ballads simply drip with so much emotion and strength that her audiences routinely require tissue boxes on every chair. Rounding out the Trio's full-bodied melodies are Jake Fleming, Jeni's husband, on guitar and saxophone, and Chad Langford on bass. Each accomplished musicians in their own right, both Fleming and Langford add depth to the music while perfectly and intuitively knowing exactly how and when to enhance Jeni's soulful sound.
Club/Carson is a new way to experience the performing arts. The Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Theater will be transformed into a cabaret with candlelight, intimate seating at cocktail tables, appetizers and drinks for purchase, and a nightclub atmosphere. |

| 7:30 pm | Opera: The Most Happy Fella KIMBALL RECITAL HALLThe Most Happy Fella is Frank Loesser’s most operatic musical—and therefore just the right sort of vehicle to test the full range of talents of UNL Opera’s student performers. It is also a great audience pleaser, full of rip-roaring musical theatre showstoppers like “Standin’ on the Corner,” “Big D,” “Joey,” and “My Heart Is So
Full of You.” An emotionally powerful love story, The Most Happy Fella is set in California’s Napa Valley during the 1930’s. Tony Esposito, a middle-aged owner of a vineyard, proposes through the mail to a woman who does not know what he looks like, enclosing a photo of his young, handsome foreman. When Rosabella learns the truth, she is hurt and humiliated. A loving understanding eventually blossoms between the two during Tony’s long convalescence from a near-fatal accident, but only after the mismatched pair overcome suitably heart-wrenching obstacles. Broadway and opera star T. Doyle Leverett will perform the title role. Guest artist Leverett, the foremost Tony Esposito in America today, has triumphed in the role in regional productions, on Broadway and, last March, at New York City Opera. |
