Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies Great Plains Art Museum"Nebraska, 1875: Edwin Curley's View of Its Advantages, Resources, and Drawbacks," Richard Edwards, Professor of Economics and Fellow in the Center for Great Plains Studies, UNL. In 1875, the English journalist Edwin Curley published a book, "Nebraska: Its Advantages, Resources, and Drawbacks", which is his detailed reportage on the new state. He had spent the previous two years traveling in the Great Plains, especially Nebraska. The talk will explore who Curley was and evaluate what he achieved in his book and what his book contributes to our understanding of the early history of Nebraska. Reception begins at 3:00 pm.
