DESCRIPTION:"Nebraska, 1875: Edwin Curley's View of Its Advantages, Resour
 ces, and Drawbacks," Richard Edwards, Professor of Economics and Fellow i
 n the Center for Great Plains Studies, UNL. In 1875, the English journali
 st Edwin Curley published a book, "Nebraska: Its Advantages, Resources, a
 nd Drawbacks", which is his detailed reportage on the new state. He had s
 pent the previous two years traveling in the Great Plains, especially Neb
 raska. The talk will explore who Curley was and evaluate what he achieved
  in his book and what his book contributes to our understanding of the ea
 rly history of Nebraska. Reception begins at 3:00 pm. Free and open to th
