Double Reed Days Feb 15-16

Description:

This year, the UNL School of Music’s Double Reed Day events will host guest oboist Peter Cooper, Principal oboist, Colorado Symphony Orchestra and guest bassoonist Bob Barris, Professor of Bassoon (retired) from Northwestern University. There will be a recital Friday evening at 7:30 (FREE and open to the public) in Westbrook Recital Hall, Room 119, Westbrook Music Building with Peter Cooper, Bob Barris, Dr. William McMullen and Dr. Jeffrey McCray. Saturday morning will start with masterclasses and continue with two sessions for oboe and bassoon on audition preparation and instrument maintenance. A boxed lunch will be provided for everyone who pre-registers by Friday, February 8. After lunch, the afternoon activities will begin with a masterclass and, after a short session looking at new instruments, tools, and reed making supplies, will conclude with a recital featuring the UNL college students that ends with a reading of double reed ensemble music in which audiences members are encouraged to participate! All Double Reed Day events will take place in Westbrook Music Building on the city campus of UNL. Pre-registration fee is $10 for Saturday’s activities and includes a boxed lunch. The events are open to all students, teachers and parents.
