| Description: |
A Feb. 29 University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension workshop will help producers determine cost-effective strategies for their alfalfa operations. The Alfalfa Management for Farmers workshop at the August N. Christenson Research and Education Building at UNL's Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead will help producers stay current on new technologies in alfalfa production and will cover damaging insects, such as the potato leafhopper. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the workshop from 10 a.m-1 p.m. which includes a complimentary noon lunch. Presenters include Bruce Anderson, UNL Extension forage specialist, and Keith Jarvi, UNL integrated pest management extension assistant. Participants will learn about insect problems in alfalfa, including insect identification, scouting techniques, economic thresholds and management options. Other topics include reducing rain damage, harvest timing for yield and/or quality and controlling problem weeds.
