SUMMARY:Twilight Tree Tour for Late Season Tree Management
DESCRIPTION:A hands-on tree management tour will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesda
y October 28 at the UNL Extension Office at 415 Black Hills Avenue in All
iance. Presenters will be UNL District Forester Doak Nickerson and UNL Ex
tension Educator Bill Booker.\n\nBooker states that Fall is a great time
for planting trees and managing or enhancing your tree plans. This year
offered some recovery from eight years of drought that can have ongoing
impacts on long-lived perennial plants (i.e. trees). Symptoms visible on
your trees are not recent (they can be from a year ago or more) so do no
t expect instant recovery. We can, however, offer the tree a good start
on the recovery process for next year’s growing season. The recovery s
tarts now with fall and winter plans and developing plans for next year.

SUMMARY:Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country
DESCRIPTION:“Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country” tells the story o
f the explorers’ historic 1804–1806 expedition from a different point
of view—that of the Indians who lived along their route. During their
journey to the Pacific coast and back, Meriwether Lewis and William Clar
k and their small group of voyagers crossed the traditional homelands of
more than 50 Native American tribes. The exhibit examines this monumenta
l encounter of cultures and examines the past and present effects of that
encounter on the lives of the tribes which still live in the region. \n\
n“Lewis and Clark and the Indian Country” is composed of six sections
of panels of images and text drawn from original documents in the rich N
ative American collections of the Newberry Library, and in the collection
s of the Washington State Historical Society, the Minnesota Historical So
 ciety and other institutions.
