The media turns it into a scandal, which endangers her confirmation and divides her family and friends. The production is directed by Virginia Smith who believes the show is "timely since we have a woman running for president. AN AMERICAN DAUGHTER spurs debate about how women are still viewed in political leadership positions in this country."
