Show Choirs from across the region come together for the 2009 Midwest Cup Show Choir Invitational in the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Groups will perfect their skills in show choir performance and perform on the Lied stage.
Announcing the 2009 Nebraska Red Violin Festival! Held on January 31, 2009 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Music in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, this one-day festival for talented high school violinists will explore aspects of violin performance, technique and philosophy. The festival will feature violinist Peter Marsh as the guest-artist. Young violinists will have the opportunity to play for Mr. Marsh in a masterclass and participate in sessions on violin related topics led by Mr. Marsh and violin professors at UNL, Rebecca Fischer, David Neely, and Julie Yoon.
Guest artist: Peter Marsh was the first violinist of the Lenox Quartet for 23 years (1957–81). After his time with the Lenox Quartet, Mr. Marsh was also the first violinist for the Philadelphia, Berkshire, Sequoia, Southwest and Pacific quartets. As concertmaster, Mr. Marsh has played with the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Colorado Festival Orchestra and California Chamber Symphony. He has collaborated in concert with artists such as Leon Fleisher, Stanley Drucker and Eudice Shapiro. His faculty appointments include Indiana University, Ithaca College and Western Washington University as well as artist faculty positions at Aspen, Tanglewood, Ravinia, Spoleto, Fairbanks and other festivals. Additionally, Mr. Marsh has conducted the Western Washington University Symphony, served on music panels of NYSCA and the National Endowment for the Arts, and is a founder of Chamber Music America.
