7:30 pmMusical Theatre Showcase WESTBROOK MUSIC BUILDING
Twelve masters students from UNL's School of Music and the Johnny Carson School of Theatre & Film will perform the Musical Theatre Showcase, REASON TO LOVE. UNL's Coordinator of Musical Theatre Studies, Alisa Belflower, will direct and narrate the program, which will feature a series of scenes from contemporary musical theatre. Many scenes will receive their premiere during this revue. The theme of the evening is meeting characters, who have to decide to choose love--even when it is not the easiest of choices. The scenes provide an intimate look inside the hearts and minds of contemporary characters in contemporary circumstances, with choices to explore through music inspired by both classical and popular musical genres. All scenes will be accompanied by UNL doctoral student, pianist Stavros Laparidis. Come out to enjoy fresh, inspired new musical scenes composed by some of the most celebrated, living composers of musical theatre. Each composer, whose work is being included in this program is a recipient of multiple national awards for excellence in musical theatre. The evening's performance has an approximate running time of 75 minutes without an intermission. *Please note that this performance contains adult language and situations. This event is FREE and open to the public.
