All dayUNL Extension Program - Crop Management Diagnostic Clinic Agricultural Research & Development Center, near Mead

Agribusiness professionals and crop producers will take a close-up look at field conditions, research and techniques at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's midsummer Crop Management Diagnostic Clinics July 22-23.

The UNL Extension clinics begin each day with 7:30 a.m. registration at the Agricultural Research and Development Center near Mead and start at 8 a.m. Participants will meet at the August N. Christenson Research and Education Building.

Participants can attend one or both of the clinics as subject matter will be different each day.

The July 22 clinic topics include: in-depth soybean cyst nematode (SCN) management ; crop protection/weed issues/Goss’s wilt; troubleshooting corn stand problems; Stax and more Stax: making a smart choice; irrigation - nitrogen management; and benchmarking corn water productivity in irrigated and rainfed systems and how to use this information.

The July 23 topics include: crop disasters, late planting and tough choices; tailoring weed management strategies for your field; improving nutrient management; alfalfa disease management; optimizing yield in irrigated soybean systems; and how can weather forecasts be so wrong, so often?

Six Certified Crop Adviser credits have been applied for and are pending approval for each clinic.

Presenters include UNL faculty and private industry agronomists.

Early registration is recommended to reserve a seat and resource materials. Cost for one clinic is $145 for those registering one week in advance and $195 after. Cost for both clinics is $255 one week in advance and $305 after.

A late season Crop Management Diagnostic Clinic will be held on Aug. 20. Topics include:  getting the most out of your nitrogen dollar; soybean management - creating higher potential yield; corn growth and ear development; effects of biostimulants/growth enhancers/anti-stress chemistries on soybeans and corn; irrigation management; and carbon sequestration report card.

The 2009 Fountain Frolics summer concert series at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln begins June 4 at the Nebraska Union Plaza, 15th and S streets. The concerts will be noon to 1 p.m. every Thursday through July 30 (except July 2). UNL's University Program Council sponsors local musical entertainment and sells a picnic lunch of a hot dog, chips and a Pepsi product for $4 under the north overhang of the Nebraska Union. 4:30 pmSpend a Night at the State Museum! MORRILL HALL
The State Museum is offering free admission to Morrill Hall every Thursday during the month of July between 4:30-7:30 p.m. Mueller Planetarium will be featuring limited runs of “Secret of the Cardboard Rocket” at 5:30 p.m. and “Dark Side of the Moon: The Fulldome Experience” at 7 p.m. these nights. Planetarium tickets are $3.00 for UNL students, faculty, and staff. Children under 18 are $2.50. Tickets are sold at the museum’s front gate the day of the show. The museum will continue to be open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays throughout the year.
