The Spring 2012 Musical Theatre Showcase will perform A SPARK TO LIGHT THE DARK, Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 pm in Westbrook Recital Hall — Room 119. This event is FREE and open to the public.

A SPARK TO LIGHT THE DARK is a musical theatre revue of eleven scenes
from both older and newer musicals. These musical scenes share the theme
of stumbling upon a spark of wisdom that ignites momentarily illuminating
a bit of darkness. The title of this original revue is partially inspired
by a line from Stephen Sondheim’s song “Broadway Baby” from his musical
FOLLIES: “Gee, I’d like to be on some marquee all twinkling lights, a
spark to pierce the dark from Batt’ry Park to Washington Heights.”

The cast features (in alphabetical order) Arica Coleman, Adam Fieldson, Sam Hartley, Allison Harvey, Hannah Kurth, Reagan Lopez, Emily Martinez, David Rubio, John Stewart, Nathaniel Sullivan and Rachael Washington with Jaime Castellanos accompanying at the piano. I will host the hour long revue with an introduction to each scene. These actors are some of the brightest and best of UNL’s talented students from both the School of Music and the Johnny Carson School of Theatre & Film. Each of these students has won awards and received honors, just this year.
