We'll learn that quilts can not only keep you warm, but can be used to tell stories and preserve memories about you and your family! We'll view the exhibition "Quilted Messages," story quilts by contemporary folk artist Yvonne Wells, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mrs. Wells is a retired elementary teacher. Her quilts tell stories about "doing the right thing," stories from the Bible and picture famous people like Michael Jackson. We'll talk about story quilts from Addy's time (Civil War), including the "Reconciliation Quilt" and learn about the myth of the Underground Railroad quilts. After viewing historical and contemporary story quilts, the girls will design and stitch their own self-portrait quilt! Snacks will be enjoyed by all. The girls are encouraged to bring their favorite doll to class.
