The Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Tyler Goodrich White, presents Student Soloist Night featuring winners of the 2011-2012 Graduate and Undergraduate Solo Competition, Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Recital Hall.
Featured works will include the Symphony Orchestra performing Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36 (1802) by Ludwig van Beethoven. After a brief intermission the Winners of the Soloist Competition will perform, beginning with Finlandia, Op. 26 by Jean Sibelius with Esteban Barquero-Hernández conducting. Soprano Allison Harvey will perform "Ain't it a pretty night" from Susannah (1955) by Carlisle Floyd. Luigi Bassi's Fantasia di Concerto on themes from Verdi's Rigolletto (ca. 1855) will feature solo clarinetist Richard Viglucci. The final work will be Franz Liszt's Concerto No. 2 in A major for piano and orchestra (1839, rev. 1849-61) featuring pianist Stavros Laparidis.
Tickets: General admission $5, student/senior $3, available at the door approx. one hour before the performance.
