"Glutathione and Fe-S Clusters: From Redox Control to Iron Sensing" will be presented by Dr. Caryn Outten, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of South Carolina. My research group is focused on two mains areas: mitochondrial glutathione metabolism and control of iron homeostasis in the model eukaryote S. cerevisiae (baker’s yeast). My Ph.D. work in metalloregulatory protein mechanisms and bioinorganic chemistry was completed at Northwestern University while my postdoctoral research in yeast molecular genetics and oxidative stress response mechanisms was conducted at Johns Hopkins University. I recently received a 2009 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
