10:00 amComposting Demonstration - Lincoln, NE Pioneers Park
Learn how to be successful with composting by attending a composting demonstration sponsored by University of Nebraska–Lincoln Extension in Lancaster County and the City of Lincoln Recycling Office.

These demonstrations will show you how to be successful with backyard composting. You will see three types of composting bins and how to use them. Every family will receive a composting thermometer.

Composting converts grass clippings, fallen leaves and other landscape leftovers into a nutritious soil amendment. It recycles plant nutrients, improves the soil's structure, improves drainage in clay soil and increases the water-holding capacity of sandy soil. And there's nothing difficult or complicated about making it.
1:00 pm-4:30 pmColorful Creature Day MORRILL HALL
Colorful Creature Day will feature LIVE animals and art activities in the museum. Various groups will be on hand to give children the opportunity learn about and interact with different creatures, including an alpaca, llama, birds, snakes, butterflies, amphibians, insects, and more! At 3:30 p.m., Wildlife Encounters will showcase exotic animals in Elephant Hall, including a kinkajou, alligator, coatimundi, African serval, and more. Artists will provide animal-related art activities for children and demonstrate their creative talents.

Mueller Planetarium will present the fulldome show, “Enchanted Reef,” a 30-minute adventure exploring the ocean world. Show times are 2 and 3 p.m.

Presenting organizations include Wildlife Encounters, Lincoln Children’s Zoo, Pioneers Park Nature Center, Raptor Recovery, Capital Humane Society, Nebraska Herpetological Society, Spring Creek Prairie Audubon, Nebraska Parrot Rescue, Star City Llama and Alpaca 4-H Club, Great Plains Chapter of the Guild of Natural Scientific Illustrators, UNL Department of Art and Art History, among others.
