Lincoln and surrounding areas will have the rare opportunity to view a partial solar eclipse in the late afternoon on Thursday, October 23. Please do not look at the sun at any time, even during the eclipse, because the bright sun can damage your eyesight. You must prepare yourself with proper viewing glasses, a pinhole projection system, or other equipment designed for the purpose. Even better, you can get the best and safest views of the the eclipse at the UNL Student Observatory, which is on Top of the Stadium Drive Parking Garage, across the street from Memorial Stadium. A public viewing will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 PM and will be hosted by Faculty and Staff from the UNL Department of Physics and Astronomy, who will be there with several eye-safe solar telescopes and protective solar glasses. They will also be glad to answer your questions about eclipses and about astronomy. Don’t miss this rare opportunity; the next major solar eclipse visible from Lincoln will be in August, 2017!

Additional Public Info:
Parking is available in the Stadium Drive parking garage.
