Strong links between education and health outcomes indicate that policies and practices targeting factors outside of health care are needed to address the adverse health consequences of limited educational attainment. Specifically, we know that racial and ethnic minority students experience large disparities in educational outcomes (i.e., lower graduation rates, higher rates of suspension/expulsion) placing them at increased risk for poverty, unemployment and poor overall health. In this conversation, we will explore programs of educational research designed to promote academic success for diverse students, including our work on supporting students’ social-behavioral functioning via home-school partnerships, and how these programs may influence current research agendas, policies and practices to address minority health disparities.

Lunch will be provided.
