In the heat of the Confederate flag debate across the nation, a group of change agents decided on June 27, 2015, that things needed to change in South Carolina. Bree Newsome was arrested at the South Carolina State Capitol after scaling the 30-foot flagpole and unhooking the Confederate flag. She stated, “This flag comes down today!”

Bree Newsome is a graduate of New York University Tisch School of the Arts and is an award-winning filmmaker, known for WAKE (2010), writer, composer, singer, community activist and organizer, but she does not see these as separate endeavors. “Art is activism and activism is art,” she insists, as she seamlessly blends her talents in pursuit of social and economic justice.

Free for UNL students with valid NCard. $5/faculty, staff, public.
