UNL Extension Mid-Plains Beef Educational Series

Event Detail
Date: Thursday, June 2nd
Time: All day
Description:

University of Nebraska–Lincoln Extension Mid-Plains BEEF Educational Series begins in June at the UNL Agricultural Research and Development Center (ARDC) near Mead, Nebraska.  The Mid-Plains BEEF Educational Series is an effort by a team of southeastern Nebraska Extension Educators.  Instruction will draw on the expertise of extension educators and specialists from across the state of Nebraska to share their beef cattle expertise with participants.

The program, designed for producers, veterinarians, college students, or persons involved in the beef industry, will help participants learn more about the systems approach to beef cattle production through these multi-session, hands-on learning experiences in beef production, economics and forage management.

The Mid-Plains BEEF Educational Series is a multi-session program.  It begins June 2 and continues Nov.r 16, 2011 and Jan. 25, 2012.  Participants may choose to attend one or all three session. All sessions will provide hands-on learning.

By attending, participants will learn about grazing toxicity issues, summer herd health, plant identification, value added marketing opportunities, pasture monitoring, pasture design, grazing stalks, mineral supplementation, feeding and storing distillers grains, third trimester cow health, body condition scoring, production costs and budgets, leasing, pasture revitalization, cover crops, calving, and understanding EPDs.  All of these components are part of a systems approach with a connection between production, economics and forage management.

Registration for the June 2 program is requested by May 26, registration for the November 16 program is requested November 9 and registration for the January 25, 2012 program is requested January 18, 2012.

The registration fee is $60 per session or $160 for all three sessions, which covers educational materials, noon meals, and breaks.
