Dr. Mary Harris, Professor, Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, Colorado State University, will present the seminar “Omega-3 DHA in Pregnancy and Lactation: Outcomes, Metabolism and Potential Mechanisms of Action” on Tues., Oct. 8, 2013 at 4:00 PM in N172 Beadle Center.

Mary Harris, PhD, RD, is a professor of nutrition and director of the Dietetics Program at Colorado State University. She holds a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Rhode Island and a B.S. in Nutrition from Michigan State University. Her research area is fatty acid metabolism in pregnancy and lactation with particular reference to omega-3 DHA on pregnancy outcome and neurocognitive development. She is the author of numerous scientific journal articles and textbook chapters and is a reviewer for many nutrition and medical journals and serves on the editorial board of the Journal for Nutrition Education and Behavior and Vitamins and Trace Minerals. She is a consultant on n-3 fatty acids and seafood safety during pregnancy to the National Fisheries Institute and serves on the Perinatal Nutrition Research Group of the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies National Coalition.
