Dr. Antoni Barrientos, professor, Departments of Neurology and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, will present this seminar.

My laboratory is interested in the basic processes underlying the biogenesis of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and how they bear on human mitochondrial and neurodegenerative disorders and the aging process. Current projects aim to disclose the assembly pathway of mitochondrial supercomplexes or respirasomes, to characterize the role of heme and redox sensing in the translational regulation of cytochrome c oxidase, to identify mitoribosome assembly factors, and to characterize the mitochondrial involvement in yeast models of aging and neurodegeneration.

All Biochemistry/Redox Biology Center Seminars are free and open to the public.
