Presented by Paul Black, Professor and Chair, Department of Biochemistry, University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The primary focus of the work in our laboratory is to determine the components and mechanisms governing exogenous fatty acid transport across a biological membrane. These efforts extend to intracellular trafficking of fatty acids with a specific focus on acyl-CoA trafficking within discrete intracellular metabolic pools. Our research uses cell-based and mouse models addressing fatty acid transport, acyl-CoA formation and trafficking, and lipid modeling. These efforts include development of high-resolution methods to quantify triacylglycerol production and define the pathways of lipid remodeling within the membrane to understand lipid metabolic pathways under normal and abnormal conditions.
