“An update on the function(s) of mitochondrial derived vesicles” will be presented by Dr. Heidi McBride, Canada Research Chair in Mitochondrial Cell Biology, Professor and Killam Scholar Montreal Neurological Institute, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, CANADA.

Mitochondria are highly dynamic organelles, with a multitude of critical functions in the cell, from energy production to the regulation of cell death. I have been working on the mechanisms and meaning of mitochondrial dynamics in mammalian cells, including mitochondrial fusion, the regulation of the core fission GTPase Drp1, and in the characterization of mitochondrial derived vesicles that transit to the lysosomes or peroxisomes. In this presentation, I will describe our most recent data that provides new insights into a few unexpected functions of these vesicles.
