No musical or science background required - for K-12 teachers and teaching artists of all subjects. Participants explore how to guide students in creating musical instruments inexpensively from recycled materials, and use the instruments to make connections to science and literacy. Teachers witness interdisciplinary learning in action, and learn how to use the arts as tools to inspire students with core concepts in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

John Bertles is a composer, instrument builder and educator. He has worked in different roles with organizations such as the GRAMMY Foundation, Kennedy Center, Leonard Bernstein Center, New York Philharmonic, New York City Department of Education, and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble.
