Current Trends in Post-secondary Disability Law and Helping Students Transition from High School to College

This presentation will address the different legal rights of students with disabilities in high school and those in college and what that tells us about preparing students for a successful transition from secondary to postsecondary. Current trends in postsecondary disability law will also be discussed.

Welcoming Student Veterans and Wounded Warriors to College: What are the Challenges and What Works?

This presentation will provide an overview of who wounded warriors are based on survey results. Best practices for working to welcome wounded warriors and other veterans to campus and help them persist and succeed in higher education will also be presented.

Paul Grossman’s Bio:
Paul Grossman is the retired Chief Regional Attorney for the US Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR), San Francisco. Paul continues to teach disability law at Hastings College of Law, University of California; the National Association of ADA Directors (NAADAC); and, the California Association for Post-Secondary Educators of Persons with Disabilities (CAPED). Paul is also a repeating guest lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Boalt School of Law, U.C. Berkeley. Paul is a member of the AHEAD Board of Directors, the Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) Expert Advisory Panel, and the CHADD Public Policy Committee. Paul is co-author of the leading disability law school textbook, recently contributed to a book on best practices and universal design for the National Association of Student Personnel Advisors (NASPA), and just released two interviews for publication in Disability Compliance in Higher Education (DCHE). Paul has been an advisor on wounded warriors to the Office of the Chancellor of the California Community College System and the Office of the Vice President of the United States.
