Holocaust survivor, poet and recent quilt donor Peter Fischl will be a special guest at Quilt House on Aug. 7 during First Friday.

At 5:30 p.m., Curator of Collections Carolyn Ducey will present along with Fischl, who wrote “To the Little Polish Boy Standing with His Arms Up.” The poem was inspired by a photo Fischl saw decades after he immigrated to America. The photo, in an old issue of Life magazine, was of a Polish boy with his arms in the air, standing next to a German soldier holding a rifle. Fischl was haunted by the image and how he survived the holocaust while millions, including his father, did not.

Katie Wisian will also speak. Her poem, inspired by Fischl’s is included on the Holocaust quilt that Fischl donated to ICSCM.

First Fridays feature free admission to the galleries and family activities are available.
