Seventy years of fashion are represented in the upcoming exhibition, “Nebraska: State of Fashion I.” From the closets of former Nebraska governor Kay Orr, from Avery Woods, and from the late Lincoln dressmaker Ilona Berk come vibrant examples of fashion worn in the state of Nebraska between 1920 and 1990. The exhibition runs February 15-April 1, 2016.

Featured in the exhibition are garments Kay Orr wore while she served as the state’s 36th governor, from 1987 to 1991. Nebraska legend and Omaha dressmaker Mary Anne Vaccaro was known for producing garments of fine fabrics with a classic minimalism and meticulous fit. Ilona Berk (1918 to 2013) was a prominent Lincoln designer who became an influential player in fashion for those who sought distinctive design and custom fit. Avery Woods offers three generations of impeccable fashion worn by her and members of the Woods family tp community fund raising events and celebrations, including Nebraska’s Ak-Sar-Ben Ball.

The exhibition includes a reception and gallery talk on March 4, 2016, a gallery talk featuring the story of Ilona Berk on March 25, 2016, and a public lecture by Dr. Barbara Trout and co-curator Kylin Jensen titled “Design that Lasts” on February 26.
