CICL 101 teaches students very basic Chinese language skills that are closely related to their everyday life such as greeting others or responding to greetings from others, making simple expressions of their basic needs, giving others instructions by using a few words, and making simple requests or asking for help.
CICL 201 is a sequential class to CICL 102. Language instructors will teach students more practical Chinese language skills. The course contents cover more topics on Chinese culture. Teaching will also focus more on speaking and listening skills related to aspects of Chinese food, clothing, traveling and accommodation. Students will start to learn how to write some common Chinese characters, order food in a Chinese restaurant, introduce their families and occupations, make and answer phone calls, and ask for directions to places.
