| 1:00 pm-2:30 pm | CICL 101 Sec 003 -- Beginning Chinese I (Children) NEBRASKA HALLCICL 101 teaches Chinese to children in easy steps to help them establish a solid foundation of vocabulary, knowledge of Chinese and basic communication skills. This course is designed to emphasize the development of basic skills in listening, speaking, and reading Chinese. Course contents for this class include introduction of Pinyin, lessons of Chinese numbers and dates, self-introduction and greeting people, explanations of basic strokes of Chinese, and tracing of some Chinese characters. |

This class continues to follow concepts to teach Chinese to children in easy steps to help them establish a solid foundation of vocabulary and communication skills in order to develop and master Chinese language skills. Besides giving trainings in listening, speaking, and reading in Chinese, writing Chinese characters is added to this class. Upon finishing this class, students will be able to hold conversations about their family members, occupations and daily routines, and write some simple Chinese characters. |

Besides teaching students more Chinese characters, the instructor will guide practical conversations on topics such as dining out, ordering food from a menu, comparing styles of houses, and knowing about their neighborhoods and surroundings. Students are encouraged to memorize about 100 Chinese characters upon finishing this class. |

Students will be instructed to continue to achieve accuracy, fluency and overall communication at advanced levels, resulting in the improvement of both linguistic knowledge and performance with more emphasis on reading and writing. Students will learn how to write Chinese characters systematically, and will be guided to read selected articles from websites or books in Chinese after class and share their ideas in class. Additionally, more Chinese characters, phrases and grammar of HSK Level 3 will be taught with the aim to prepare the students for HSK 3 or higher levels. |

Upon finishing this class, students will be able to master some basic Chinese traditional painting skills and make some Chinese water color paintings. |

This music class is taught by Mrs. Judy Li, a visiting Associate Professor of Music from the Three Gorge University in China. |
| 2:45 pm-3:45 pm | CICM 303 Sec 001 -- Chinese Folk Dance for Children (ages 5-9) NEBRASKA HALLCICM 303 is an introductory class of Chinese folk dance for children ages 6 - 9. The instructor is Miss Yuchen (Lancy) Fan, a visiting teacher with 12 years of dance experience from Xi’an Jiaotong University - City College in China. Students will learn basic movements of Chinese folk dance through watching the instructor’s demonstrations and video plays. Most students will be able to perform a simple program of Chinese children folk dance at the end of the semester. A recital will be given by the students for their families and friends during the last day of class. |
| 4:00 pm-5:00 pm | CICC 112 Sec 001 -- Beginning Chinese Calligraphy & Painting for Children (ages 5-9) NEBRASKA HALLA brief introduction on the history of Chinese calligraphy and painting will be given at the beginning of the class. Students will be taught to use Miaohong method to learn basic strokes of Chinese characters, a basic skill of learning Chinese calligraphy. Students will also learn some basic Chinese painting skills and use these skills to make some simple children’s color paintings. |
