CICL 301 is a sequential class to CICL 202 and is designed for students who are interested in developing more sophisticated Chinese language skills. The course presupposes a basic knowledge of Chinese pinyin, words, sentences, and grammar. Emphasis will be placed on using Mandarin proficiently when conducting conversations with native Chinese speakers. Upon finishing the course, students should be able to use Chinese to ask and give some directions, go shopping in Chinese stores, have conversations over the phone, read and write short notes and simple letters in Chinese. Students will likely be required to present a speech or presentation in Chinese at the end of the course.
