SUMMARY:First Friday Reception Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Drawn to Fashion: the illustrations of Mary Mitchell\n \nOctob
er 22 - November 30, 2012\n \n The Friends of the Robert Hillestad Textil
es Gallery will host a First Friday event November 2 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m
.\n \nOmaha fashion illustrator Mary Mitchell worked during a preiod when
fashion illustration's role was critical to successful commerce in every
thing from haute couture to ready-to-wear. In the 1960s and 70s, pages o
f the fashion press were filled with drawn images that captured the energ
y of the industry at its peak. That period of dynamic social and cultura
l change impacted fashion but was in turn affected by it. This is one of
the critical dimensions of fashion in general: it is inseparable from t
he age that spawns it, and it serves inevitably as a barometer of that ag
e's tendencies and unique character. In Drawn to Fashion: the illustrat
ions of Mary Mitchell, the post-War period of American affluence and exce
 ptionalism comes convincingly to life.
