Mark the University of Nebraska – Lincoln’s (UNL) Kimmel Education & Research Center as a destination for your 2012 AppleJack experience. We will be swarming with activities and buzzing with ideas!

The excitement will begin right next to Kimmel Orchard on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 9 AM. Come to Kimmel explore the world of bees. Learn how to tell the difference between bees and their “un-bee-lievable” mimics. Ever wonder what it looks like inside a bee hive? Join UNL’s apiculture specialist, Marion Ellis, as he digs into a hive and demonstrates the life of bees. Honey isn’t the only amazing thing bees make! Join Graduate Student, Erin Ingram, as she demonstrates all the wonders of bee pollination while also providing honey tasting and demonstrations of value-added products like beeswax, lip balm and hand-dipped candles.

On Saturday “Be” Fruity: Fabulous, Flying and Flavorful Food” will be presented by assistant professors Stacey Smith and Sabrina Russo of the UNL School of Biological Sciences. Visitors will discover the important role fruit plays in the environment, the plant life cycle, and the diets of animals and humans. You will be able to investigate how some fruits fly and why they have so many shapes, colors, and sizes, while learning how to tell the difference between a fruit and a vegetable.

Kimmel will be “buzzing” with something for everyone. Learn about Nebraska wildlife by participating in the, “What could it “be?”, interactive game with Extension Educator, Dr. Deb Weitzenkamp. Plus, we’ll be having Buzz-A-Bouts, flash presentations buzzing with information! Topics include food, wellness, agriculture, natural resources and more, presented by Dr. Connie Reimers-Hild, Vaughn Hammond, Deb Heidzig, Alice Henneman, and other University experts. Finally, it wouldn’t be AppleJack at Kimmel without the UNL Food, Science, and Technology Club serving up that awesome ice cream from the UNL Dairy Store. Who knew learning could “bee” so much fun!

Co-Parenting for Successful Kids is an unbiased, research-based education class designed to help separating and divorcing parents cope with divorce and custody. Parents learn to answer the children's questions and keep their children safe and out of their conflict. Co-Parenting for Successful Kids strengthens communication skills that can improve interactions with children and the other parent. The goal of Co-Parenting for Successful Kids is to develop respectful, responsive and responsible co-parenting.
