Theatrix, a student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will kick off its 2014-2015 season with the play Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies. Emma Gruhl, an undergraduate theatre directing and management major, will direct.

Gruhl describes the production as “a story about relationships. Sarah, a photojournalist, and James, a freelance journalist, document war in the Middle East. Through their passion, they each aim to make a difference in the world with their journalism. But when the strenuous nature of their work begins to overshadow the development of their relationship, the two must decide what kind of life they’re fighting for.”

Playwright Donald Margulies notes that, “Time Stands Still is very much about the choices and compromises we all make—in love, in work, and, particular to this play, in war. Ethical struggles touch on all aspects of life.”

The play’s cast is composed of four actors. Emily Schmidt plays the headstrong “Sarah.” Trey Martinez plays her love interest, a perceptive “James.” They are joined by Tom Crew as kind “Richard” and Taylor Baggett as the naïve “Mandy.” The production is designed by Sarah Resch (lighting), Stephanie Kahler (props), Elizabeth Kniep (sound), Alicia Ojeda (costumes), and Emily Brim (scenery). Amy Almond stage manages.

There will be no performance on Saturday, October 25 due to a home football game. Tickets are a flat rate of $6. Tickets are available online at unltheatretickets.com and one hour prior to performances on the third floor of the Temple building.
