Theatrix, the student run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will begin its spring season with the New Artists Festival, which will feature three plays written by student playwrights as well as an art gallery featuring art students’ work.

Trey Martinez, a junior in both theatre performance and directing/management, will direct junior Matt Knight’s short play “Cat’s Got Your Tongue,” a play that features a talking cat with a large personality and a very funny, yet very confused owner.

Paul Schack, a freshman in both theatre performance and directing/management will direct junior Emily Kuklinski’s short play “Uprooted,” a play that goes beyond the typical struggles of being a teenager. The play features a city girl whose life gets turned upside down when she is faced with change, in a big way.

Zach Kunz, a freshman directing/management major will direct junior Katie Hoppe’s short play “The Incident of the Accidental Liking of an Instagram Photo,” a topical play about the technological world that we live in.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18, 19, and 20 in the Lab Theatre on the third floor of the Temple Building at 12th & R Streets.

Tickets are a flat rate of $6 and are available in advance online at unltheatretickets.com, or one hour prior to performances in the third floor lobby (cash sales only and subject to availability).

The New Artists Festival is a chance for students’ new work to be showcased. Putting on three very different plays all written by student playwrights is a way to show the arts community that our students are doing much more than learning how to become professional actors. Showcasing visual art done by students achieves our goal of making the entire evening a well rounded experience.

The actors involved in helping these stories come alive are:
Katie Hoppe
Brittany Goodro-Sincebaugh
Katie Vondrak
Aaron Gilbert
Aaron Boyle
Tatianna Hizar
Chelsea Harris

The production is designed by Stephanie Kahler (production manager) and Mattie McIntosh (lighting designer). Jorden Charley-Whatley is the Stage Manager.

The newly-named Theatrix Management Team is
Artistic Director: Amy Almond
Co-Managing Directors: Becca Hess and Madison Nichols
