Irrigation and Energy Conservation Field Day

Description:

The Irrigation and Energy Conservation Field Day at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's South Central Field Laboratory - Clay Center will help producers save water and money.

The program, sponsored by the Nebraska Corn Board and the Nebraska Corn Growers Association in partnership with UNL Extension, starts with 8:30 a.m. registration with training from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Limited registrations will be accepted.

Participants will learn best management practices for corn production, achieve water conservation in irrigated and dryland corn production, learn how to reduce energy use production costs, find how to maintain and, in some cases, increase yield and profitability and learn to better manage surface and groundwater irrigation.

Topics and presenters include: Agricultural Water Management and Corn Production with High Irrigation Costs and Limited Water presented by Steve Melvin, UNL Extension Irrigation Educator and Gary Zoubek, UNL Extension Educator; Furrow Irrigation presented by Chuck Burr, UNL Extension Educator and Dean Yonts, UNL Extension Irrigation Engineer; Sprinkler Package Selection and Evaporation Losses presented by Bill Kranz, UNL Extension Irrigation Specialist and Simon van Donk, UNL Irrigation/Water Resources Specialist; Subsurface Drip Irrigation in Nebraska presented by Suat Irmak, UNL Extension Water Resources Engineer; Update on NRD Integrated Water Management Plans presented by Rod DeBuhr, Upper Big Blue NRD and Daryl Andersen, Little Blue NRD; and Water Supply & Management Issues presented by Derrel Martin, UNL Extension Irrigation and Water Resources Specialist.
