The Nebraska State 4-H Camps, with three locations at Halsey, Gretna, and Alma, provide a selection of day and overnight camping programs and trips scheduled for the summer of 2009! The camps are open to all youth ages 5-19 and offer a variety of camp lengths, interest areas, locations and prices. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in many activities, including canoeing, a high-wire course, wall climbing, swimming, water slides, fishing, scavenger hunts, campfires, arts and crafts, tubing, livestock judging, backpacking, horseback riding, computer technology and more.

Show starts at 10 am. 4-H Horse Arena in Oakland, NE. Lunch stand on grounds. 1st place trophy only/payback 20%-15%-10%-10%. One time $4.00 per person office charge. No studs.

Show starts at 9 am. Registration fee of $3.00 per class or $17.00 all day. Lunch stands on grounds.

The show will be set up in the district format and all 4-H age groups can participate in English Pleasure and Equitation and Western Pleasure and Horseman-ship. This will be a great opportunity for elementary age riders to experience the district format even if they aren’t yet old enough for State. Plus, you can compete for prizes in a Hippology Contest. Depending on size of the classes and show . . . if the judge has time, he will be able to do a little teaching/comments at the end of the classes. Stay and watch the Juniors and Seniors participate in Reining, Poles and Barrels. There will be a one time office charge of $5 and a $3 charge per class. Proceeds support the Horse 4-H Program in Lancaster County.

The Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program (WHEP) is a fun and challenging outdoor adventure where youth, age 8-18, learn about wildlife, conservation and management. Guided by wildlife handbooks specially designed for young people, volunteer leaders help youth learn about the needs of wildlife. The junior (age 12-13) and senior (age 14-18) division youth then compete at a state contest in teams (individual participation possible). The novice group (age 8-11) does not compete at the state contest, but learns about wildlife through fun educational activities and games. We have several young people who are preparing for this camp by practicing every Thursday. If you have any questions about being a part of this group, please call the Extension Office at 694-6174.

The Lancaster County Horse VIPS will host a pre-districts show/fundraiser. The show will follow the district format and all age groups—elementary, junior and senior—can participate. All counties are welcome. This will be an excellent opportunity for all 4-H riders to practice for districts. It will also be a great opportunity for elementary age riders to experience the district format even if they aren’t yet old enough for state. Depending on size of the classes and show, if the judge has time he will do some teaching/comments at the end of the class.
