Time Event Title
8:30 am-3:15 pmEntrepreneurship in the Mass Communication Field ANDERSEN HALL
University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications is hosting a conference, “Envision Your Own Endeavor,” April 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at Andersen Hall.

"Our industry is changing, so we must prepare our students to look broadly at how to use their skills in the marketplace, including entrepreneurship. This conference is designed to expand the options and thinking of students with these majors,” Carla Kimbrough, an associate professor of journalism, said. “We know there may also be professionals - working or laid-off journalists - who want to use their communication skills to start their own endeavors. This conference is great for them, too."

The College of Journalism and Mass Communications is partnered with the Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship to bring together the speakers.

The conference line up is:

• “Own your Future,” led by Terry Sebora, Ph.D., an expert in entrepreneurship who teaches the subject at UNL’s College of Business Administration, and whose family owned a supermarket chain in Wisconsin.

• “Nuts and Bolts of a Startup,” led by Ronda Smith, who is working on her doctorate in management and who has been an entrepreneur and worked in the corporate world.

• “What the Center for Entrepreneurship can do for you,” led by Kathleen Thornton, associate director of the Nebraska Center for Entrepreneurship, who won awards as an entrepreneur.

• “Guts & Glory of Entrepreneurship,” a panel discussion, will feature entrepreneurs who were journalism or mass communications majors and now run their own businesses.

The early bird registration is $10 for students and $20 for others until March 31. Between April 1 and April 21, the registration goes up to $15 for students and $25 for others. Registration includes lunch and materials. Registration forms are available at http://www.unl.edu/journalism. Checks should be made payable to UNL and can be sent to College of Journalism and Mass Communications, (Attn: Carla Kimbrough) University of Nebraska-Lincoln, P.O. Box 880443, Lincoln, NE 68588-0443.
