Title: Delay differential equations and bird migration dynamics

Additional Public Info:
Delay differential equations are used to model the dynamics of bird migration. Threshold dynamics of this model has been studied in a previous literature and the threshold is linked to the spectral radius of an abstract operator. Calculation of the dynamic threshold, however, is a challenging problem. In this talk, we introduce a dimension reduction method and asymptotic techniques to approximate the dynamic threshold. Our formula is explicitly given in terms of model parameters. This talk is based on a joint work with Jianhong Wu of York University.

Refreshments will be served in 348 Avery 3:30-4:00. The talk is free and open to the public.
