Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra collaborates with Abendmusik-Lincoln, the Lied Center for Performing Arts and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln to present Benjamin Britten’s powerfully dramatic War Requiem. Britten interwove the traditional Latin requiem mass with text from Wilfred Owen, a prominent World War I poet. The mammoth oratorio is scored for nearly 400 performers and includes a symphonic orchestra, chamber orchestra, organ, vocal soloists, boys choir, and full mixed voice choir. Under the direction of LSO Music Director Edward Polochick, Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra will be joined by Janice Chandler-Eteme, soprano; Ross Hauck, tenor; Paul Tipton, baritone; the American Boychoir; and choirs from Abendmusik, ABENDCHOR,
Doane College and the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
“It provocatively juxtaposes the vivid anti-war poetry of Wilfred Owen with the Latin Requiem mass in a passionate outcry against man’s inhumanity to man.” – Cambridge University Press
