During the June First Friday Art Walk, bring your own T-shirt to the Great Plains Art Museum to have it screen printed by Great Plains Graduate Fellow and artist Joyce Bingeman for a $5 donation to the Museum. Choose from the popular designs worn by our staff as well as a kid-sized design. Shirts must be a dark color, because the printing ink is white. If don’t bring your own, short-sleeve T-shirts will be available for $10, long-sleeve shirts for $15. There is a limited number of these shirts.

June 3 First Friday is the opening reception for “Cropping to Circles,” a new exhibition from artist Kendall McMinimy.

McMinimy fuses photography and printmaking in monochromatic abstracted renderings of irrigation systems. The artist draws attention to agricultural water use through images that explore the nature of center pivot irrigation as “a system that encircles multiple conflicting truths—a worldwide revolution in food production is also complicit in the depletion of groundwater; humanitarian aid aligns with hegemonic order; global market forces allow and deny local economies; a system simultaneously produces and diminishes.”

Born and raised in the high plains of Kansas, McMinimy holds an MA and MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Cropping to Circles was recently recognized in the Critical Mass Top 50 Portfolios of 2014.
