Two workshops will be held for 4-Hers of all ages interested in getting some great tips on improving their public speaking skills. Clint Andersen will lead these workshops and discuss everything you need to be successful with a speech or presentation including choosing a topic, organizing and preparing the speech and practicing. The 1st will be March 6th the 2nd March 10th. Please RSVP by calling the Office, 327-2312.
Chemigation is the practice of applying agrichemicals to cropland using an irrigation system to distribute both the water and chemical. The chemigation certification program is responsible for training Nebraska producers about the Nebraska Chemigation Act and the Rules and Regulations as developed by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ). Participants can certify or re-certify by attending a training program and passing an exam.
UNL training sessions are 2 1/2 to 3 hours. A $30.00 fee will be collected the day of the training session. Remember to bring your notification from Nebraska Department of Agriculture (NDA). You should have received a "bar-coded" letter from the NDA about your need to re-certify.Please bring this bar coded letter to the session you are attending. If you do not have the letter or this is your first time applying you can fill out a bubble form.
Three dates have been set up for Sheridan County.
You only need to attend one session.
There is a self study option if you cannot attend one of the sessions. Contact the Extension Office for the material. The fee is $60.00
Upon completion of your training there is a $25.00 fee for the license.

Registration will begin ½ hour before start. The cost of the training is $30.00 payable the day of the training (Checks should be made payable to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln). You should have received a letter from the State Department of Ag reminding you of your permit expiration. If you bring that letter with you the day of the training, you will not need to fill out the application form.
Other options to receive your private pesticide license include:
Option 1: Complete the Nebraska Private Self-Study Manual for the Private Pesticide Application. The manual is available at the Box Butte County Extension Office. The fee is $60 per applicator.
Option 2: Take the online initial certification or recertification course. Purchase in the UNL Extension Marketplace by going to http://bit.ly/Hu7woR. The fee is $60 per applicator.
Option 3: Attend and participate in a Crop Production Clinic conducted by UNL Extension. Clinic fee is $60 per applicator ($60 online pre-registration or $75 at the door).
The state pesticide license fee is $25.00 for private applicators. Upon completion of your private pesticide applicator training, the Nebraska Department of Ag (NDA) will process your application and then send you a bill for the $25.00 state license fee. The license fee covers the three-year certification period. Upon receipt of the license fee payment, the NDA will issue your pesticide license card to you. All dollars collected by the NDA in license fees are transferred for use by the Nebraska Natural Resource Districts in their educational programs. Your NDA private pesticide license card is required for the purchase and use of restricted use pesticides for the production of Agricultural Commodities.
The Extension Office meeting room holds a maximum of 30 people per session. The first 30 to RSVP for each session will be given priority for that session. Please call the Box Butte County Extension Office at 762.5616 to RSVP for the training you will attend.
The Panhandle Best circuit has BB Gun and Air Rifle events throughout the Panhandle. There are divisions for 4-H youth ages 8 and up (by January 1). There will be competitions in BB Gun, Sporter Air Rifle and Precision Air Rifle.
