SUMMARY:Earth Day Celebration
DESCRIPTION:As Earth Day 2008 fast approaches, Ecology Now and the School
of Natural Resources are planning a campus-wide event. This year’s Ear
th Day Celebration will be held Friday, April 18th from 10:00 AM to 3:00
pm on the green space just north of the City Campus Union. In the event
of rain we have reserved space inside the City Campus Union. \n\nThe main
goal of the Earth Day Celebration is to educate the public about environ
mental issues. Such issues include the conservation of natural areas, ef
ficiency of transportation and alternative fuels, climate change, recycli
ng, and buying local. We also hope to promote outdoor activities and bri
ng together local organizations and businesses who are interested in gree
n living. \n\nEarth Day 2008 is a great opportunity for SNR to showcase
all the wonderful things that are, indeed, "From Earth to Sky and Everyt
hing In Between". We want faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate st
udents involved with this event. \n\nYou can become involved in many di
fferent ways - having a booth to showcase information is an easy way to b
ecome involved, but we would also like to suggest interactive activities.
This is as much a celebration of the Earth as an educational event, so
we hope to give students and other patrons of the celebration experiences
. Hands-on activities, educational games, and other creative activities
are some suggestions. Volunteers are also needed to help with setting up
and tearing down and other such items. We would like to have a list of
commitments by March 14th, 2008. \n\nIt is very important that SNR take
the lead on Earth Day this year and in the future!\n\nIf you are interest
ed in becoming involved, please contact Sara Winn at 472-8823 or smcclean
winn2@unl.edu. Sara will keep a list of names of those who want to set
up activities or participate as volunteers. You may also contact Matt Jo
eckel, SNR Outreach Coordinator, if you require additional information.
