Larkin and Kelly Powell will reflect on the sabbatical year that they spent in Namibia, southern Africa, with their son, Tristan, 12. The family lived and worked with the white ranching community, indigenous farmers, college educators and students, and preschool and orphanage children. The Powells had elephants, leopards and lions around them as they ventured on camping trips through one of the least-populous countries in the world, and they took extensive photos of the people, animals and landscapes they encountered. They will also discuss the reverse culture shock they experienced, which brought home to them the lessons of conservation, simple living, and purpose that they learned from the people of Namibia.
