The Hitchcock & Hayes Counties FCS/Life Challenge Conest will be held on May 23, 2012. For more information please contact your local Extension office.
5:00 pm May 24thLamb & Hog Tag Day - Hitchcock County Nathan Hoyt's Farm
Lamb & hog tag day is set for Thursday, May 24th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Nathan & Trina Hoyt’s farm north of Culbertson. All market lambs, breeding ewes and market hogs must be tagged at this time to be eligible to show at County and/or State Fair. Market Lambs and Hogs must all weigh-in at this time to be eligible for the county Rate of Gain Contest. If you are planning to show at State or Ak-Sar-Ben we will need to collect DNA on each animal you plan to exhibit. The cost will be $6.00 per animal. Please all the office if you have questions.

May 31stYouth Animal Science Field Day NCTA
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln West Central Extension District will be holding their Youth Animal Science Field Day again this year on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at NCTA in Curtis. It is open to all 4-H’ers 8 to 18 years of age.
Youth will enjoy a day of learning about livestock while working through hands-on activities. The day will help youth increase their science based knowledge about livestock, develop critical thinking and problem solving skills, explore careers in animal science and introduce them to skill-a-thon type competition.
Details are still being planned. If you are interested in attending, please contact your local UNL Extension Office to be put on a list for more information when it becomes available.
The cost for this day camp is $5.00 which covers lunch.
9:00 am Jun 1stLamb & Swine Tag Day- Chase Chase County Fairgrounds
Friday, June 1 is the day for ALL sheep, swine, and goats to be tagged at the fairgrounds.

Swine will be weighed in and tagged from 9:00—10:00 a.m.
Lambs and goats will be tagged from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Breeding heifers, cow/calf pairs, stocker/feeder calves and bucket calves do not need to be brought in. However, 4-H'ers will need to stop by the office and pick up tags and return the I.D. sheets to the Extension Office by the final deadline date of June 1. Animals MUST be tagged when ID sheets are returned.

DNA samples will also be taken if planning to exhibit at State Fair or Ak-Sar-Ben. There is a $6.00 fee per animal for the DNA.

All Chase, Dundy, Hayes and Hitchcock Counties enrollment and project changes are due to your local Extension office by 4:00pm on June 1st.
4:00 pm Jun 1stLivestock ID's Due- SW4 SW4- Hayes, Hitchcock, Chase, Dundy
All livestock ID sheets are due June 1st to your local Extension Office. This includes breeding heifers, cow/calf pair, stocker feeder, bucket calf, meat goat and breeding ewes.
