Today across the globe, many Indigenous peoples have successfully prodded government authorities to initiate truth and reconciliation efforts to address past abuses and resolve longstanding grievances. This discussion explores what role scholars—whether Indigenous or not—could or should play in these efforts. We will tackle questions such as: (a) How do you responsibly conduct research/write about a group of people who have a different background than your own and were mistreated by people of your background in the past?; (b) How do you approach research of this nature when your academic discipline has been implicated in oppressing this group of people?; & (c) What would researching and writing for reconciliation mean?
