Presentacion Rivera will present a seminar titled “Self-regulated learning in engineering labs.” Students’ task interpretation is a critical first step in the process of self-regulated learning and a key determinant when students set goals in their learning and select strategies in assigned work. Laboratory activities improve the students’ conceptual understanding because of the demanding of cognitive ability when students have to integrate laboratory activities and the theory. The purpose of this study is to investigate how students’ interpretation of the task assigned during laboratory work may change during the task process, and how it is related to their conceptual understanding.

A simultaneous teleconference of this seminar will be available in 202 Hardin Hall on East Campus. Please contact Jenny.Dauer@unl.edu at least one day in advance of the seminar if you wish to participate in the teleconference. Further information on this seminar series can be obtained at: www.unl.edu/dber.
