Come celebrate Valentine’s Day with us the Japanese way! Stop by the Kawasaki Reading Room for chocolate making, biscuit sticks, and more!

Valentine’s Day in Japan is different from the American Valentine’s Day. On or before February 14th, girls make or purchase chocolates to give to boys on Valentine’s Day. The handmade chocolates take time and effort, so receiving chocolates can become a big feat for many. Girls and women can also give out “obligatory” chocolates to brothers, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
Boys, on the other hand, give out sweets, such as lollipops, to the women they received chocolates from on March 14th, or White Day, as it is called in Japan. This day can be especially difficult for men, if they received many chocolates on Valentine’s Day.

Decorating chocolates on Valentine’s Day has become a tradition in Japanese culture and has gained popularity over the years, so come and find out why it has become such a popular holiday! Join us for chocolate and biscuit stick making, while learning about Japanese culture on Valentine’s Day!
